Emmelia Georgiou, MA

Dance Movement Psychotherapist

I am Emmelia Georgiou, a Dance Movement Psychotherapist. But more than that, I’m someone who believes in the power of connection through words, through movement, through simply being present with another person.

I studied Comparative Literature at Queen Mary University of London, then completed my MA in Dance Movement Psychotherapy at Goldsmiths University of
London. I am registered with both the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK (ADMP UK) and the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy Cyprus.

I spent several years working in London before returning to Cyprus. This move helped me see things from a new perspective. How culture, context, and personal history shape each of us. It also taught me to stay flexible and curious, to meet
people where they are, and to hold space for complexity.

Philosophy

Most people come to therapy because something in the way they relate to others, to themselves, to life feels painful, stuck, or out of reach. In our work together, the
relationship that unfolds between us often becomes a rich microcosm to explore those patterns. What happens between us can gently mirror your broader relational
world, offering moments of insight and possibility. I invite us to pay attention to that space, and to stay curious about what it reveals.

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic therapy. I work with the understanding that early relationships and unconscious patterns shape how we move through the
present. Often, these dynamics come to life in the therapeutic relationship itself, offering us a unique opportunity to notice, reflect, or try something different.

Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is a way of working that recognises the body as a holder of memory, emotion, and meaning. Movement can be a powerful
tool, especially when words aren’t enough or feel far away.

That said, there’s no pressure to move. Some clients work entirely through conversation; others bring in movement when it feels right. I always meet you where
you are. The process unfolds in response to you, your needs, your rhythm, your story.

Literature continues to play a quiet but important role in how I work. It helps me notice the deeper threads in someone’s story; the metaphors, the silences, the
things that can’t always be said out loud.

Experience

My approach is shaped by my training and clinical experience, but also by the people I’ve met and the places I’ve worked. Since qualifying, I’ve worked in schools, homeless shelters, youth hostels, and addiction centres in London; spaces where people often show up with their rawest, most honest selves.
